The American civil war happened from 1861 to 1865, and it involved the union and the Confederacy states. It broke out shortly after Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as the president of the United States and it included the succession of most of the southern countries to form the Confederacy states that were not legally recognized. However, long-standing conflicts and differences did exist between the southerners and the northerners, about the issue of slavery. While many reasons can be put across to explain the emergence of the civil war in America, slavery is a prominent reason which in this case happens to be the primary cause. The south and the northern parts of the country did not agree on the issue of slavery. The North believed that slavery was not right, and therefore, there was a need for its abolishment. On the other hand, the southern part of the country had defended the institution of slavery for an extended period, and hence, it was against the abolishment (Meyers 55).
